Takeover Chaos

UFJ Holdings, the bank my girlfriend's father formerly was an executive for, has gone from failing bank to takeover darling. (The link provided for UFJ was a search that found my site on Google). Way back a few months ago Sumitomo Trust & Banking was supposed to buy out UFJ Trust & Banking...then UFJ Holdings nixed the deal and offered a merger deal between it and Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group (MTFG). So Sumitomo Mitsui FG decided that it's rights had been violated and it decided to sue UFJ Holdings. UFJ Scoffed at the idea and moved forward in it's talks with MTFG, if the merger goes through it will form the largest bank in the world.

Now out of no where SMFG has decided it will counter MTFG's merger/takeover offer and match the offer. According to the Financial Times the combined UFJ-SMFG company would have "assets of Y180,000bn ($1,607bn), while the MTFG/UFJ entity would be slightly larger at Y190,000bn." For the shock and awe effect I think they should merge MTFG and UFJ. Screw Citibank's claim as the biggest bank in the world.

MTFG was planning to announce it's merger with UFJ today at a press conference in Tokyo. That idea was scrapped after this new plot twist. This is only a developing story and can only get even more interesting as time goes on...stay tuned faithful readers.

Anyone still Searching for Bobby Fischer. This guy may be book smart, but he has the common sense of a thumbtack.

Real Madrid played JEF United Ichihara yesterday to a 3-1 victory at National Stadium, about 5 minutes from my apartment. I did not even know Real Madrid was in Tokyo. All I saw was about a thousand girls wearing Beckham jerseys and then asked one of them. She gladly told me that R.M. was going to crush the Jap team. So much for national unity...

A typhoon is blowing in...I love typhoons. They are soo cool when you are in the city. Nothing gets messed up, it's just really windy, rainy, and warm. Fun to go up on the roof in or walk around the city.

Satellites are cool...
