Death of a Legend...RIP ODB

Saturday one of the most intriguing men to ever hit the rap scene died after collapsing in a recording studio. Ol' Dirty Bastard (ODB) was 35 going on 36. He also went by the names of Dirt McGirt, Big Baby Jesus, and Russell Jones. He was the founding member of Wu-Tang Clan.

He wrote some of the funniest lyrics ever recorded and one of the funniest songs ever made in "Got Your Money." As Rolling Stone Magazine put it in a review I read a while back, he is "shamelessly hilarious." Those words epitomize a man who had diamond studded teeth and rapped about everything from a teacher telling him to read a paragraph about oral sex in class to whores owing him money.

The way he wrapped he can only be described as a perpetually drunk sounding warble. Even the sound of his voice brought smiles to all of us, his fans. His actions were even more insane.

My favorite memory of him stems from back when I was in high school. It was right after MTV started filming his reckless lifestyle in an attempt to show how nuts he really was. He hopped in a limo with several of his kids, a camera crew, and a motive. He went to the welfare office (in a limo!!) and demanded food stamps so his broke baby's mothers could feed them. The funniest part of the whole incident was the look of satisfaction on his face after he got them. He actually said "don't say daddy never gave you nothin'" I pissed my pants laughin'.

Also, getting arrested for wearing body armor, escaping from rehab to perform in a concert, and menacing rent-a-cops rank up there with some of the funniest reasons to be arrested as well.

Sign the guestbook that was set up in his memory. You can reach it by clicking here.
